WoodFest is coming to Cardiff following its success in Newcastle, Sheffield, Reading and the Midlands in 2018 and 2019. The event takes place throughout February, March, April and May with a focus on low carbon housing, connecting communities, local timber and healthy building products.
The programme is set to feature a collection of events and seminars, exhibitions and site visits celebrating the versatility and sustainability of wood as a design and construction material in the age of climate emergency.
WoodFest is organised by the UK timber industry’s campaign, Wood for Good, in collaboration with TRADA, Woodknowledge Wales, Western Timber Association and many more.
WoodFest Cardiff brings together architects and engineers, place-makers and planners, developers and contractors, industry and politics to explore what forestry and timber can do to achieve a low-carbon society.
Education and inspiration take centre stage. On 5 February, a timber day is taking place at Neath Port Talbot college, followed by TRADA’s annual university challenge. From 17-19 February 60 students from 30 universities will descend upon Cardiff to develop a live brief by Wales & West Housing. 7 judges from across the industry, including Stirling Awards winning practices, will select the winning team. As part of the challenge, an evening event on building performance and use of timber is taking place at Cardiff university. Further events are planned for March, April and May. To be updated soon.
