Project Information

The purpose of the Home-Grown Homes project is to create high-performance and affordable new homes from wood in a manner that maximises the opportunity for local manufacturers and home-grown timber.

The Home-Grown Homes project themes are:

• more and better homes from wood
• more and better local manufacturing
• more and better home-grown timber

The project aims to improve the business case for timber construction in a way that maximises economic, environmental and social value to Wales.

Wales has the potential to become a high value forest nation. The project will look at a range of options for change through the timber construction supply chain from forest to home.

“Powys County Council is determined to develop innovative solutions to address the loss of young economically active households from our communities by creating jobs in the growth, harvesting, processing and manufacture of homes from natural timber resources grown in rural communities.”

Simon Inkson, Head of Housing, Powys County Council
