Development by Wales and West Housing at Rhos-on-Sea.

Wales & West Housing (WWH) has contracted Williams Homes (Bala) Ltd to build an exciting development of 11 apartments in Rhos-on-Sea, Conwy, which includes homegrown timber. WWH is one of the largest social housing provider in Wales with 9,700 properties. WWH is also a founding member of Woodknowledge Wales. Williams Homes have a strong track record in timber frame construction in North Wales and in recent years have pioneered the use of homegrown timber on many conventional and innovative low carbon construction projects.

The scheme will provide 11 general needs apartments. As with all WWH projects sustainability is a key consideration in design, delivery and use. The apartments will provide a low-cost and healthy living C309 – COLWYN AVENUE, RHOS ON SEA environment for the residents. The use of homegrown timber further helps to reduce the embodied carbon of the project and reflects WWH’s commitment to maximising social value through their procurement processes.

The project began on site in April and is due for completion in November 2016. Williams Homes are using a modern open panel timber frame construction made entirely from homegrown timber. An innovative feature of the construction is the use of a highly sustainable wood-fibre insulation board in a vapour open construction which helps to support good indoor air quality and provides enhanced thermal and acoustic performance.
