Join Woodknowledge Wales on a trip to a Pontrilas sawmill and Welsh forest and hear from industry experts to gain a detailed understanding of the potential of the Welsh timber industry to provide construction timber.
The purpose of this whole day event is to help social landlords and their consultants to understand the potential of the timber supply chain to meet the demand for construction timber in Wales. The Welsh Development Quality Requirements 2021 encourage social landlords to maximise the use of timber in new homes.
The trees we fell in our forests supply sawmills which produce timber for a wide range of uses, but currently only 4% of the harvest is used in construction. Welsh Government and Woodknowledge Wales believes more of this harvest should be used in housing. This event, led by experts and practitioners, will explain the challenges and opportunities in timber processing and Welsh forestry. This event will challenge the belief that we don’t have enough supply and that Wales doesn’t produce suitable construction timber.
