MDF Recovery is a Wales based SME that has developed the world’s first continuous process for the recycling of medium density fibreboard (MDF).
The MDFR technology uses bespoke heating equipment that reverses the original manufacturing process. It breaks apart the glue bonds that bind individual wood fibres together and frees them for re-integration into the MDF production cycle or for use in secondary applications such as high performance thermal insulation products. This allows the embedded carbon within the MDF to have multiple user lives rather than the current situation of a linear make, use & dispose model.
MDFR’s technology will move to demonstration level in 2022 and full commercialisation thereafter.
