Use of home-grown timber in sustainable low energy buildings
George has worked for Architype for the past 10 years. He enjoyed being the Project architect for St Luke’s – Britain’s first BREEAM Excellent primary school in Wolverhampton, and subsequently led the team for the Blakenhall Neighbourhood Centre on the adjacent site.
As a keen mountain biker, George was well suited as the project architect on a Forestry Commission Wales’ Visitor Centre project at Coed y Brenin in Snowdonia, using innovative timber construction from homegrown timber. Other projects include a number of private houses, feasibilities and recently the Passivhaus social housing dwelling models for Swansea Council and Passivhaus primary schools in Burry Port and Trimsaran for Carmarthenshire County Council.
George has a particular interest in Passivhaus design, methods of construction and sustainability, and is currently busy with his own timber/ straw self-build project in Herefordshire.
