Expanding reciprocal membership agreements to include the Structural Timber Association (STA) will further strengthen collaboration across the forestry and timber value chain.

Woodknowledge Wales is pleased to announce a new reciprocal membership agreement with the Structural Timber Association (STA). This strategic partnership builds on our recent agreement with Timber Development UK and is designed to strengthen collaboration across the forestry and timber value chain—delivering greater value and opportunities for our respective members.
Under this agreement, Woodknowledge Wales and the STA have each become members of one another’s organisations, recognising our shared commitment to promoting timber, supporting sustainable forestry, and driving technical excellence and innovation across the sector.
As a result, all current and future members of Woodknowledge Wales and the STA will benefit from reciprocal collaboration, events and opportunities. This includes shared learning, joint communications, and greater visibility across our combined networks. Together, we aim to foster a more connected, informed, and effective timber community—from forest to frame.
While contra-membership provides enhanced opportunities to connect, learn, and collaborate across organisations, it does not grant full direct membership benefits. Certain elements—such as voting rights, exclusive training discounts, or access to restricted member-only resources—remain available only to direct members of each organisation.
“These agreements reflect our commitment to collaboration as a catalyst for positive change,” said Gary Newman, CEO of Woodknowledge Wales. “The STA and TDUK are important voices in our sector. By aligning our memberships, we can help members across the UK access more knowledge, connections and opportunities—supporting a thriving, low-carbon timber industry.”
The Structural Timber Association is the UK’s leading organisation for structural timber construction, representing manufacturers, suppliers, engineers, and designers to promote quality, technical standards, and market growth for timber building systems.
These new partnerships join our existing agreement with Timber Development UK, creating a stronger, more integrated network of organisations working to make timber the first-choice material for a sustainable future.
We invite all members to explore the work of the STA and consider where new connections, learning, and collaborations can grow.
Together, we can do more to make timber work for people, place and planet.
