Christiane, known for her work in societal transformation and regenerative approaches, highlighted the pivotal role of timber in achieving a green transition. She underscored the importance of building bio-based solutions to decarbonise the built environment, aligning with Woodknowledge Wales’ mission to inspire innovation through collaboration and create connections between industry stakeholders. She highlighted the role of Communities of Practice in facilitating collaboration among professionals to develop net-zero carbon homes and tackle barriers in the housing sector.
Promoting the use of locally sourced timber in social housing
A significant portion of the talk was dedicated to the Home-Grown Homes project, an initiative aimed at promoting the use of locally sourced timber in social housing. Christiane emphasised the project’s success in encouraging the adoption of timber in construction, thereby reducing carbon footprints and supporting local economies. She also touched upon the importance of regenerative materials and the need for a circular economy approach in the construction industry.
Christiane’s insights resonated with the conference’s overarching theme of exploring innovative, affordable, and low-carbon solutions to Scotland’s housing crises. Her emphasis on renewable, circular solutions provided a roadmap for integrating sustainable practices into housing development, aligning with the conference’s goal of fostering equitable and sustainable housing futures.
