Woodknowledge Wales has delivered its response to the Welsh Government in support of its aim to grow a skilled workforce that will support our net zero challenge

In October 2023, Welsh Government launched its Net Zero Sector Skills consultation [1-3]. On behalf of Woodknowledge Wales, James Moxey delivered a response ahead of the 31 December 2023 deadline. The consultation provides an opportunity to strengthen our understanding of the current skills position for each emission sector in Wales, as outlined in Net Zero Wales.
“Policies (e.g., the National Forest) to increase forest cover requires the recruitment of skilled people,” stated James in his response. “Wales needs to build at least 20,000 low-carbon, new homes. The methods that will achieve this (for new build) require a culture of off-site manufacturing (OSM) and on-site construction. These methods will employ materials with a low-carbon footprint to build high-performing homes designed, built, and tested to use a minimum amount of energy. Welsh Government’s policy to develop a Timber Industrial Strategy will underpin both these requirements.”
