A global call for exemplary timber buildings that champion responsible construction, climate action, and nature-positive design—aligned with key principles for Responsible Timber Construction

Woodknowledge Wales is proud to support the Built by Nature Prize 2025 – a global call for projects that demonstrate excellence in responsible timber construction. This prestigious award aligns with our ongoing mission to promote better buildings using Welsh forests and timber, and is part of a wider movement to embed sustainability, responsibility, and innovation into the construction sector.
The Prize is rooted in the Principles for Responsible Timber Construction – a powerful framework that will be explored in depth during Day 1, Plenary 1 of WoodBUILD 2025. We invite all WoodBUILD participants to engage with these principles and join the discussion on how they can shape future buildings for climate, nature, and people.

Announcing the Built by Nature Prize 2025
Built by Nature is looking for buildings that exemplify excellence in responsible timber construction.
The Built by Nature Prize 2025 celebrates predominantly timber buildings that align with the Principles for Responsible Timber Construction. Open globally, the Prize recognises completed and in-use projects – including new builds, renovations, and significant extensions – that showcase what responsible timber construction can achieve for climate, nature, and people.
A panel of international experts from across the construction value chain will judge entries based on their alignment with the Principles. All applicants undergo technical assessment, with shortlisted projects showcased at Woodrise 2025 in September. Winning projects will be announced at the Built by Nature Summit in October, and featured in a high-end documentary series premiering at COP30 in Belém, Brazil in November.
Why apply?
• Shortlisted and winning projects will benefit from:
• Global exposure through film and media partnerships
• Invitations to international events and study tours
• Opportunities to influence policy and shape the future of responsible timber construction
The Prize is a platform for sharing best practice, accelerating market adoption, and uniting efforts to advance responsible timber building globally. Your project can help raise the bar and inspire action across the value chain.
Applications are open until 31st of May 2025.
