This report summarises Woodknowledge Wales’ progress in the Education and Training strand of Phase 2 of the Home-Grown Homes Project. It shows how developing a stronger skills pipeline — from schools to industry — is essential for Wales’ goals in low-carbon construction, sustainable forestry, and timber manufacturing. Key themes include the need for clearer career pathways, earlier awareness of opportunities, and much closer collaboration between educators and employers. Key achievements across training, schools, further and higher education are listed along with a series of recommendations.
Education and training are positioned as critical enablers for Wales’ decarbonisation, housing, and timber industrial ambitions. In summary, targeted investment in skills development and education-industry partnerships will be vital to deliver a skilled workforce for a thriving, home-grown timber economy in Wales.
